Etymology

هُنا is a primitive demonstrative adverb of place built on an old Semitic deictic base. It is the proximal (near) member of a three-way distance series with هُناكَ ('there') and هُنالِكَ ('yonder'), and is closely tied to the deictic element ها-. Being a Semitic word, it has no Indo-European ancestry.
