Etymology
واجِهَة comes from the Semitic root و-ج-ه (w-j-h), which carries the core sense of "face." It is the feminine active-participle form of واجه (wājaha, "to face, to confront"), so it literally denotes "the thing that faces you." That sense extended naturally from a building's street-facing front to, in modern usage, the screen a user faces when operating software.
