Etymology

مُشْتَرِي is the active participle of the Form VIII verb اشتری (ishtarā), meaning to buy. The verb is built on the triliteral root ش ر ي (sh-r-y), which carries the general sense of exchange or trade. Form VIII inserts a ت after the first root letter, giving a reflexive or self-interested sense, so the participle reads roughly as 'one who acquires for himself'. Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Indo-European ancestry.
