Etymology
Wajīh comes from the Arabic root w-j-h, the same root behind wajh, meaning face. The pattern fa'īl here gives an adjective of quality, so wajīh originally paints someone as having a good, presentable face. Arabic extended that image outward: a person others look to and respect, then a reason or argument that itself presents a good face, that is, sound and convincing. Arabic is a Semitic language, not Indo-European, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root or Western cognates.
