Etymology
Ήσυχος comes from Ancient Greek ἥσυχος, meaning quiet or still. The word gave rise to ἡσυχία, stillness, and later to ησυχασμός, hesychasm, the Orthodox Christian practice of silent, contemplative prayer. Its ultimate root before Ancient Greek is not securely established, so no reliable Indo-European root can be given.
