Etymology
Φράση comes from ancient Greek φράσις, meaning speech or manner of expression, itself from the verb φράζω, to point out or declare. Beekes notes that this verb has no secure Indo-European etymology and may come from a pre-Greek substrate. The word passed into Latin as phrasis and from there into English as phrase, so the Greek and English words are direct relatives.
