Etymology
Formed from the noun Άγγλος ('Englishman, Angle') plus the productive adjective-forming suffix -ικός, which marks 'pertaining to'. Άγγλος itself derives from the Latin Angli, the name of the Germanic tribe of the Angles who settled in Britain. The combination thus yields 'of/relating to the English'.
