Etymology
A deverbal noun from αποτυπώνω 'to imprint, to stamp off', itself από- 'off, from' + τυπώνω 'to print/stamp', from τύπος 'blow, mark, type', from τύπτω 'to strike'. The neuter suffix -μα names the concrete result of the action, hence 'the thing imprinted'. The same root τύπ- gave, via Greek τύπος, the borrowed English word 'type'.
