Etymology

Ancient Greek μωρός meant dull, sluggish, and by extension foolish or stupid. Its ultimate origin is disputed; many scholars treat it as a word without a clear Indo-European source, possibly inherited from a pre-Greek substrate language. It produced the noun μωρία (folly), and in 1910 the American psychologist Henry Goddard borrowed it directly to coin the English clinical term moron.
