Etymology
βλακεία is the abstract quality-noun built on βλάκας 'fool, blockhead' (ancient Greek βλάξ, stem βλακ-, 'slack, flabby, dull, stupid') with the suffix -εία. The ancient noun βλακεία already meant 'stupidity, slackness, indolence.' The origin of βλάξ itself is uncertain and is generally treated as Pre-Greek, so no secure Indo-European root can be assigned.
