Etymology
Βρέχομαι is the mediopassive form of the ancient verb βρέχω, meaning to wet or drench. The active βρέχω also gives Modern Greek its impersonal verb for rain, βρέχει, it rains. The ultimate origin of βρέχω is not securely established; some scholars treat it as a pre-Greek word rather than one with a clear Indo-European root.
