Etymology
βρετανικός is the relational adjective 'British', formed from the toponym Βρετανία ('Britain') plus the highly productive Greek adjectival suffix -ικός. Βρετανία itself reaches back, via Latin Britannia, to ancient Greek Βρεττανία / Πρεττανική, names the Greeks applied to the British Isles after a Celtic self-designation. The same source underlies English Britannic, Latin Britannicus and French britannique.
