Etymology
δουλεία derives from Ancient Greek δοῦλος ('slave') plus the abstract-noun suffix -εία, denoting the condition or state of being a slave. The word δοῦλος itself is of uncertain, likely pre-Greek origin and already appears in Mycenaean Greek as do-e-ro. In Modern Greek the closely related δουλειά (stressed on the final syllable) drifted to mean 'work, job', while δουλεία kept the sense of 'slavery'.
