Εκατοστά is the neuter plural of εκατοστό, itself built from εκατό, the Greek word for hundred. The ordinal suffix -οστός turns a cardinal number into 'the hundredth part', so an εκατοστό is literally one hundredth of a meter, a centimeter. The same root gives the word its second sense, the hundredths place in a decimal number.
