πρόσωποface, personπροσωπικόςpersonalEtymology
The word joins the prefix εκ- (out, forth) to πρόσωπο (face, person) and the noun ending -ος. πρόσωπο itself comes from πρός (toward, facing) plus an old root for the eye or sight. So an εκπρόσωπος is literally someone who puts a face forward on behalf of others, which gave rise to the modern sense of representative or spokesperson.
