Etymology
σπιτικός is built on σπίτι, the Greek word for house, plus the adjectival suffix -ικός, meaning of or pertaining to. σπίτι itself descends from Byzantine Greek ospítion, a borrowing of Latin hospitium, meaning lodging or a guest's quarters. Latin hospitium traces back to hospes, host or guest, from a Proto-Indo-European root for host and stranger.
