Etymology
Ευχαρίστως is the adverb form of the ancient adjective εὐχάριστος, meaning pleasing or grateful. It joins εὖ, meaning well or good, with a root tied to χάρις, meaning grace or favor, the same root behind the everyday Greek verb ευχαριστώ, to thank, and behind the English word eucharist. The ending -ως turns the adjective into a manner adverb. Its modern use as a one-word answer to a request, meaning gladly or certainly, grew out of this older sense of acting in a pleasing, gracious way.
