Etymology
Ζημιά comes from Ancient Greek ζημία (zēmía), meaning loss, damage, or a fine imposed as punishment. The word already carried both a physical sense, harm to property, and a legal or financial sense, a penalty. The ending shifted over time from -ία to the modern -ιά, common in everyday feminine nouns.
