Etymology
κορμί derives from Medieval Greek κορμίον, a diminutive of Ancient Greek κορμός 'tree trunk, log' — literally 'a little trunk', which came to mean the trunk or frame of a person, then the body as a whole. κορμός in turn comes from κείρω 'to shear, cut off', so a 'trunk' is originally 'a piece cut off'. The sense shifted from the physical stump/frame to the living human body.
