Etymology
κοροϊδεύω is a denominal verb built from the noun κορόιδο ('dupe, sucker, fool') plus the highly productive verb-forming suffix -εύω, yielding the sense 'to treat someone as a κορόιδο'. The origin of κορόιδο itself is uncertain and disputed; it is commonly traced to a Romance (Italian/Venetian) source, but no single derivation is universally accepted. The suffix -εύω continues the ancient Greek denominal suffix of the same shape.
