Etymology
θες is the colloquial, contracted second-person singular of the verb θέλω, 'to want, to wish.' In casual spoken Modern Greek the standard form θέλεις is routinely shortened to θες. θέλω itself continues Ancient Greek (ἐ)θέλω 'to wish, be willing,' whose deeper origin is uncertain and often regarded as Pre-Greek.
