μωρέ is the masculine vocative singular of the adjective μωρός 'foolish, dull, stupid'. It began as a direct insult ('you fool!') and over centuries bleached into an all-purpose colloquial particle for getting attention, adding emphasis, or signalling familiarity. Its further-clipped descendants βρε and ρε are now even more frequent in everyday spoken Greek.
