Word family
Etymology
Μας is the weak, unstressed form of the first person plural pronoun, descended from Ancient Greek ἡμᾶς, the accusative plural of ἐγώ/ἡμεῖς. Over time the initial unstressed syllable dropped away, leaving the short clitic μας, which now covers both the accusative sense (us) and the possessive sense (our). It always leans on a neighboring word for stress, never carrying its own.
