Etymology
Ντροπή descends from Ancient Greek ἐντροπή (entropē), a compound of the prefix ἐν- ("in") and τροπή ("a turning"), itself from the verb τρέπω, "to turn." The original sense was a turning inward or away, the gesture of someone who averts their gaze in embarrassment. Over time the initial vowel dropped in speech, giving the Modern Greek form ντροπή.
