Etymology
Ορισμένος is the passive perfect participle of the verb ορίζω, meaning to bound, define, or set a limit. That verb comes from όρος, meaning boundary or limit. Over time the participle shifted from the literal sense of something bounded to the abstract sense of something specific or determined, much as English uses definite from define.
