Etymology
Πες is the informal singular imperative built on the aorist stem of the modern verb λέω, to say. Modern Greek λέω is suppletive: its present comes from ancient λέγω, but its aorist and imperative come from a separate ancient verb, εἶπον, I said. Πες is a worn-down form of the ancient aorist imperative εἰπέ. The stem trace back to a very old word for speaking, not to λέγω's own root.
