Etymology

Κέικ is a direct loanword from English "cake," adopted into Greek in the twentieth century as Western-style baked goods became common. Greek kept the English pronunciation almost unchanged and gave the word neuter gender, the default for many unadapted foreign nouns. It stayed indeclinable, so it does not take Greek case or number endings.
