Etymology

Πακέτο entered Greek as a borrowing from Italian pacchetto, a diminutive of pacco, meaning a bundle or parcel. Italian pacco itself traces back through French paquet to Middle Dutch pak. Greek simply adopted the word and gave it a neuter -ο ending, the ordinary shape for borrowed nouns of this kind.
