Etymology
σαφής is an old adjective, already found in Homeric Greek with the meaning clear or plain. Its origin before that point is uncertain. Standard etymological dictionaries do not agree on a convincing Indo-European root for it. Modern Greek keeps the ancient meaning almost unchanged, in both formal and everyday speech.
