Etymology
Συμφέρον is the neuter present participle of the verb συμφέρω, used as a noun. Συμφέρω itself joins the prefix συν- (together, with) to φέρω (to carry, bear). Literally the participle means something like "that which is carried along together" or "that which is fitting." Over time this settled into the abstract sense of benefit or advantage: the thing that serves you well.
