Etymology
συνεχώς is the adverb of the adjective συνεχής 'continuous', formed in Ancient Greek from σύν 'together, with' plus the verb ἔχω 'to hold, have'. The literal idea is 'holding together', i.e. without any interruption or gap. The ἔχω element derives from the Proto-Indo-European root *seǵʰ- 'to hold, overpower'.
