Etymology
Συσκευή comes from the ancient Greek verb συσκευάζω, meaning to pack up or equip together. That verb is built from the prefix συν- (together, with) and σκευή, a noun tied to σκεῦος (a vessel, tool, or piece of gear). The original sense was the act of assembling equipment or baggage. Over time the noun narrowed to mean a piece of equipment itself, and in modern Greek it settled on the specific meaning of a mechanical or electronic device.
