Etymology
Σύνδρομο comes from ancient Greek σύνδρομον, built from σύν ("together, with") and δρόμος ("running, course"), itself tied to the verb συντρέχω, "to run together, to concur." Ancient physicians used the related noun συνδρομή for symptoms that occur together, or run their course jointly, in a patient. The term passed into New Latin as syndromus and then into English as syndrome.
