Etymology
Τηλεφωνικός is built from τηλέφωνο (telephone) plus the adjectival suffix -ικός, meaning 'relating to'. Τηλέφωνο itself is a 19th-century Greek coinage, joining τῆλε (far) with φωνή (voice, sound), created to name the new invention rather than inherited from ancient usage. The same Greek roots were reused across Europe to form the words for telephone in French, English, and other languages.
