Etymology
Φιγούρα came into Greek from Italian figura, which goes back to Latin figura, meaning shape or form. The Latin word derives from the verb fingere, to shape or fashion. Greek kept the literal sense of shape or appearance but built a common idiom, κάνω φιγούρα, meaning to show off.
