Etymology
Χιούμορ is a direct loan from English "humour/humor", adopted into Greek in the 20th century as everyday speech absorbed Western European vocabulary. The English word itself goes back to Latin "umor" (also spelled "humor"), meaning bodily fluid or moisture. Medieval medicine held that four such fluids, the humors, governed a person's temperament, and the sense narrowed over centuries from "fluid" to "disposition" to "comic wit". Greek borrowed the word ready-made, keeping the English spelling and pronunciation rather than coining a native term.
