Etymology
Χρυσός comes from Ancient Greek χρυσός, a term for the metal gold that already carried the same core meaning in Homeric texts. Linguists widely treat it as a loanword, likely from a Semitic source related to Hebrew ḥārûṣ, rather than as an inherited Indo-European word. Because of this, no secure Proto-Indo-European root is reconstructed for it.
