Word family
Etymology
«Πάει» is the third-person singular of πάω, a contracted colloquial form of πηγαίνω 'to go'. Both descend from Medieval Greek (ὑ)πάγω, from Ancient Greek ὑπάγω 'to lead/go under', a compound of ὑπό 'under' + ἄγω 'to lead, drive'. The intransitive 'go' sense developed from the middle use of ὑπάγω in later Greek.
