Etymology
Ψεύτης comes from the verb ψεύδομαι, meaning to lie or to be mistaken, which goes back to Ancient Greek ψεύδομαι and the noun ψεῦδος, falsehood. Greek added the agentive ending -της to the verb stem to form a noun meaning one who lies. The origin of ψεῦδος itself is not securely traced to a Proto-Indo-European root, so no reconstructed root is given here.
