Etymology
Όρεξη descends from ancient Greek ὄρεξις (órexis), meaning a reaching out or stretching toward something, and by extension desire or appetite. That noun comes from the verb ὀρέγομαι (orégomai), to reach for or stretch toward. The underlying sense of physically extending toward an object later narrowed to the craving for food, and figuratively to enthusiasm for any pursuit.
