Etymology
Împrumuta is built from the prefix îm- (a form of în-, "in, into") attached to the old Romanian noun prumut, "loan." Prumut in turn goes back to Latin promutuum, itself formed from pro- and mutuum, "a loan, something lent." Mutuum comes from mutuus, "mutual, given and received in kind," the same Latin word that later gave Romance languages words for "mutual."
