Etymology
Reputat is the past participle of a reputa, "to consider, deem, repute," a word Romanian took from French réputer. That verb goes back to Latin reputare, "to think over, reckon," built from re- plus putare, "to reckon, think," which originally meant "to clean or prune." Used as an adjective, reputat describes someone or something widely held to have a good reputation.
