Etymology
Încolo is built from the prefix în- (from Latin in, "in, into, toward") and colo, an old adverb meaning "there" related to acolo. Acolo itself descends from Latin eccum illoc, literally "behold, to that place," built on the demonstrative ille. Joining în to colo gave a directional adverb meaning motion "toward there," a sense that later stretched into time, giving phrases like "from now on" and "later."
