Înțeles is the past participle of a înțelege, "to understand," used here as an adjective meaning "understood" or "grasped." The verb comes from Latin intellegere, built from inter- ("between, among") and legere ("to gather, choose, read"). The sense moved from "to pick out mentally" to "to understand." Romanian kept this Latin verb intact, while several other Romance languages replaced it with different roots.
