Etymology
Întotdeauna is built from the preposition în ("in") added to the older adverb totdeauna. Totdeauna itself comes from tot ("all, every") plus deauna, a fused form of de-a and una, the feminine of unu ("one"), historically pointing to the noun oară ("time, occasion"). The original sense was something like "at every single time," which narrowed over time to the general meaning "always." The prefixed form with în- later became the standard one, though totdeauna is still used.
