Etymology
Învăța descends from Vulgar Latin invitiare, a verb built on vitium, meaning fault or bad habit. The sense shifted from marking a flaw to correcting it, then to training someone into a new practice. That settled into the modern Romanian range of meanings: to learn, to teach, and, in reflexive use, to get accustomed to something.
