Etymology
Ție comes from Latin tibi, the dative singular of the second-person pronoun tu. Between vowels the Latin b weakened and dropped, and the vowels reshaped into the modern two-syllable form. Ție now survives only as the strong, stressed dative pronoun, kept apart from the plain unstressed clitic îți or ți used in everyday clauses.
