Etymology
Apropia comes from Latin appropiare, built from the prefix ad- (toward) and propius, the comparative of prope (near). The same Latin base prope also gave Romanian its everyday word for near, aproape. Over time the verb settled into the reflexive pattern a se apropia, the standard way Romanians express drawing near to someone or something.
