Apropiere is a noun built from the verb a apropia, meaning to bring near or to approach, using the action-noun suffix -ere. A apropia descends from Late Latin appropiare, meaning to come near, itself formed from ad- (toward) plus propius, the comparative of prope (near). The same Late Latin verb, passed through Old French aprochier, is also the direct ancestor of the English word approach, so the two words are true cognates despite their different look.
