Etymology
Alb descends from Latin albus, meaning white. Romanian kept this Latin core vocabulary word directly, unlike many Romance languages that switched to a Germanic root for white (compare French blanc, Italian bianco). The underlying Proto-Indo-European root also gave rise to a small family of white-related words across the family.
